Accutane and Acne FAQ
What is Acne?
Acne is the medical term for what we all know of as “zit”or “pimple”. For most people acne is nothing more than a nuisance now and then, or something they’ve completely grown out of. Others experience more severe forms of acne known as moderate to severe or cystic acne, and often these cases need medical intervention.
What is Accutane?
Accutane is a medication derived from Vitamin A, a known skin agent. It works by reducing the amount of oil that the skin’s oil glands release, and it allows the skin to renew at faster rates than normal thus healing moderate to severe or cystic acne from the inside out. When it is used on the right candidates for severe cases of acne, Accutane has been found to be 97% effective in clearing even the most severe cases of acne. Accutane is the medication to turn to when you have been struggling with every other treatment or remedy for your severe acne and nothing else has worked.
How Do I Take Accutane?
You should always take Accutane under the direction and guidance of a health care provider, and always take it exactly as prescribed. Your Accutane dosage will be determined by your weight, and should always be taken whole with a full glass of water. Do not cut, crush, or chew Accutane. You can take Accutane with or without food, but should always take it the same way, the same time of day.
What If I Miss a Dose or Overdose?
If you have missed a dose of Accutane, skip that dose and take the next one at your next regularly scheduled time. Do not take Accutane in between doses, and never double up a dose or take extra doses to catch up. It’s okay to miss a dose of Accutane. If you suspect that you have taken more than you have been prescribed, you should seek emergency medical attention.
What are the Side Effects of Accutane?
The most common reported side effect of Accutane is dry and irritated skin. These include chapped lips, dry mouth, and dry skin. You may experience mild headache or mild flushing, but this is reported in only a few cases. More serious side effects include dizziness, fainting, chest pain, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, visual changes, hives, irregular heart beat, unusual bruising or bleeding, severe headache, and nausea/vomiting. If you experience any of these side effects seek medical attention immediately.
Are there any other interactions with Accutane?
Accutane is well tolerated and safe to take with alcohol and many other medications, but should not be taken with any other Vitamin A products. Talk to your doctor about your medication history, as Accutane should not be taken with some antibiotics and some seizure medication.
How Do I Know it Will Work For Me?
Accutane has proven to work in over 95% of cases, and in 97% of recent research studies. Accutane is best recommended for people dealing with acne that feel they have tried everything else and nothing has worked. There is no medication on the market that can guarantee 100% effectiveness, but if you you are the one that has tried everything else, chances are, Accutane will work for you.
Why Should You Use Accutane?
Accutane is indicated for people with severe acne that is painful, uncomfortable, and embarrassing them every day. This is called chronic acne. In random trials Accutane has proven to be widely successful achieving more than partial or complete clearance of cystic acne 97% of the time. Accutane is so successful all over the world, even Health Canada reports that Accutane sold over $40 million dollars in prescriptions last year alone. Why? Because it works on millions of people all over the world, and it can work for you. That’s why you should use Accutane.
